But, beyond health risks, you’re also risking the integrity of certain aspects of your bathroom. You’ve got a few options.

For starters, you could provide a fan in the bathroom to circulate the air and push it out the window or disperse it throughout the house. The second option is installing a vent in the bathroom which links to your HVAC system. Either option will work; it’s just a matter of preference and space in your bathroom.

Don’t make decisions that are going to come back to haunt you. Bathrooms aren’t massive rooms. You need to use your space wisely. If you’re renovating because the room was already poorly planned and you’re struggling to move, then make positive changes. Consider where you can place things to ensure nothing is on top of each other and you can comfortably move. Also, understand that sometimes limited space means having to make difficult decisions like sacrificing a bath for a shower.

A bathroom is a pretty important room to have adequately lit. Considering the amount of water that goes all over the place, you need to be able to see to ensure you’re safe when exiting the shower or bathtub. So the first thing you need to do is maximise natural light sources. If you’ve got a window that can be made bigger or replaced to allow for more light, then make the change. Alternatively, you can get a skylight. Then focus on artificial light, which should be 4 watts per square foot.

A bathroom remodel isn’t a place for taking chances. You need to have a concrete plan and ensure you know exactly what you plan to do. Every measurement, fixture, and design choice needs to make sense and work in the space you’re remodelling. So approach everything with the utmost seriousness, especially if this is a DIY project.
